Common activation issues (and quick fixes)
1) “The product key you entered didn’t work”
- Double-check for typos (common mistakes: B vs 8, O vs 0).
- Confirm your installed edition matches the key (Home vs Pro).
- Restart the PC and try again (sometimes Windows activation services need a refresh).
2) “We can’t activate Windows on this device right now”
- Check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes.
- Run the built-in troubleshooter: Settings → System → Activation → Troubleshoot.
3) “Windows is not activated after hardware changes”
- If you recently changed motherboard/major components, activation may require a re-check.
- Go to Settings → System → Activation and use Troubleshoot.
4) You’re stuck on an error code
Take a screenshot of the message and note the error code shown in the Activation screen. We can usually advise quickly once we see the exact code.
Windows 11 Activation FAQ
What if my Windows 11 key doesn’t work?
First, double-check for typing mistakes (common: O vs 0, B vs 8) and confirm your installed edition matches your key (Home vs Pro). If it still won’t activate, restart your PC and try again. If an error code appears, take a screenshot and contact us with your order number so we can advise quickly.
How do I know if I have Windows 11 Home or Pro installed?
Go to Settings → System → About and check the Edition under Windows specifications. Your key must match the installed edition to activate successfully.
Can I reinstall Windows later and use the same key?
In many cases, yes. Reinstalling on the same device is usually fine, but activation rules can vary depending on the licence type and whether major hardware changes were made (especially the motherboard). If you reinstall and get an activation message, contact us with the exact wording/error code.
Will a Windows 11 Pro key upgrade Windows 11 Home?
Windows can upgrade editions in some situations, but the simplest approach is to ensure the installed edition matches your key. If you’re unsure what to do for your device, message us and we’ll point you to the quickest option.
